A BOMB DISPOSAL unit rushed to a street in Bracknell earlier today after a resident made an interesting discovery.

A resident of Easthampstead called on the crews at around 5.10pm this afternoon, after he noticed a piece of 'rusty metal' in the ground at the end of Rectory Road, Easthampstead.

Nic Hoskins, a local resident, said: "I went to a job interview [passing] through Easthampstead, when I saw some kids who said they were mucking around in some dirt and said they had got something, but they were only being silly, then chucked this metal on the floor and walked off.

"I couldn't ignore it, so I walked back and saw a bit of rusty metal which, and I'm no expert, but I thought looked possibly like a bomb.

"I called 999 and they said they would get someone to come out.

"I knocked on the house next to it to let them know, and within five minutes three police cars turned up, and were sending pictures to experts."

Mr Hoskins then said that the bomb disposal unit inspected the object, found that it was not an explosive device, and left the scene soon after.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Thames Valley Police officers attended Rectory Lane in Bracknell, after a report of a suspicious item being found near to the junction with Saffron Road.

"Officers contained the scene as a precaution while the EOD also attended.

"Following an examination, it was established that the item posed no threat to the public or staff.

"Officers left the scene shortly afterwards."
