MORE than a dozen new disabled parking bays are set to be added to roads across the town — but a number of disused spaces are set to be taken away, too.

Residents living in Bullbrook, Crown Wood, Great Hollands North & South, Hanworth, Old Bracknell, Priestwood & Garth and Wildridings & Central will be affected by the changes, which will see 15 new disabled parking spaces added.

The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) comes with the relocation of one disabled bay and the removal of seven spaces that were said to be no longer in use, with the markings and signs for these bays having been removed previously.

A council report read: “It is anticipated that the work resulting from this Order will have a positive impact on the users of new and relocated disabled bays.

“Although it is recognised that the installation of disabled parking bays may lead to an increase in competition for parking in certain areas for able-bodied residents this is not deemed sufficient reason to not install a bay.”

The disabled bays will be added at Nuthurst, Vandyke, three at Kimberley, Lydney, Limerick Close, Ingleton, Drummond Close, Ullswater, Swaledale, Welbeck, Garswood, Agar Crescent, South Lynn Crescent, and Hillberry.

Eleven objections were lodged against the plans from residents living on the roads affected by the changes.

Under guidance issued by the borough solicitor, a public inquiry should be held if objections are received to a TRO.

However, a council report read: “In these instances, the objections and the officer response set out the issues clearly so it is not considered that a public inquiry would be appropriate.”

The decision will come into force today (Wednesday, March 4) following approval of the proposals from the council’s transport boss, Councillor Chris Turrell, last week.
