Shinfield is the area of Wokingham that recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases last week.

The latest figures show 100 people tested positive for the virus in Wokingham between February 16 and February 23 – seven more than in the previous week.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

In Shinfield, 18 people tested positive for the virus.

There were 12 confirmed cases in South Lake, 10 in Twyford West and Charvil and eight in Winnersh.

Wokingham Town recorded seven cases and Lower Earley North recorded five.

There were five confirmed cases in Arborfield Garrison, four in Sonning and Woodley and another four in Woodley East.

Confirmed cases in other areas of Wokingham: 

  • Twyford East and Wargrave – 4
  • Crowthorne North – 3
  • Wokingham West and South – 3
  • Lower Earley South – 3
  • Woodley South – 3
  • Barkham and Woosehill – 3

Spencers Wood and Swallowfield, Earley, Finchampstead, Wokingham North and Hurst and Wokingham East each recorded fewer than three cases.

Public Health England states: “For smaller areas with fewer than three cases, we do not show data. This is to protect individuals’ identities.”

Wokingham’s seven-day infection rate peaked at 607.2 cases per 100,000 people when the third national lockdown was announced on January 4.

But it has been falling steadily since then and now stands at 58.4 cases per 100,000.

More than 7,800 people in Wokingham have tested positive for the virus during the pandemic and 302 have died.
