A frightening incident saw a vandal smash through the front door of a flat in the middle of the night.

Thames Valley Police were called to a flat in Liscombe, Bracknell at about 4.24am this morning (February 26). 

The landlord of the property, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to the News after the door to his flat was smashed into.

He said his tenant woke up to a person 'trying to gain entry into the flat using a hammer'.

The landlord said: "Last night the front door of my property in Birch Hill was attacked by an assailant who tried to gain access to the flat using a hammer. The perpetrator could not get into the flat but has vandalised the door before making off.

"I can not imagine the terror to be woken from your sleep during such a violent attack.

"The Police attended and have stated that without a positive identification they can not act other than to record this as a criminal damage event.

"The local community should be informed that a hammer attack on a property has been carried out. "

Police said the invstigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101.

A spokesman said: “Thames Valley Police was called to a property in Liscombe, Bracknell at around 4.25am this morning (26/2) to a report of criminal damage.

“The front door to a property had been damaged and the glass smashed.

“An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101 or making a report online quoting reference 43210080875.”
