MORE than 100 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Berkshire.

Public Health England has reported 103 lab-confirmed cases across Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough, and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of Friday, February 26, at 4pm, bring the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 53,441, according to Public Health England.

  • Bracknell Forest - 7 cases, 6,793 total
  • Wokingham - 12 cases, 7,826 total
  • Reading - 22 cases, 10,463 total

  • Slough - 26 cases, 14,541 total
  • Windsor and Maidenhead - 11 cases, 7,985 total

There have now been 4,163,085people across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19 - a daily increase of 8,523 cases across the country.

People aged 40-49 are next in line for a Covid-19 vaccine after Government advisers concluded that vaccinating in order of age remained the quickest way to cut deaths.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) considered whether groups such as teachers and police officers should be vaccinated next, but concluded speed is of the upmost importance, while age remains a major factor in serious illness.

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s funeral will be “quite spectacular”, his daughter said, with soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment to honour him at the service.

Sir Tom, who raised more than £32 million for the NHS with his sponsored walk of his garden in the first lockdown, served with the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment during the Second World War.
