The Chairman of Bracknell Rugby Football Club, Ian Wilson, has reassured residents after it was announced that the town's community club is under financial strain due to the impact of Covid-19.

BRFC has stood as Bracknell's only rugby club, providing a large community hub of around 800 members.

Due to lockdown restrictions forcing sporting facilities to close, this has resulted in income being hugely reduced for BRFC.

Earlier this month, the club launched a crowdfunding project to raise £10,000 in order to improve the facilities at the club for everyone.

The money raised will ensure future financial security.

Bracknell News:

Residents in Bracknell have expressed their support for Bracknell Rugby Football Club and one resident said: "We already lost an ice rink don't really want to lose a rugby club too."

However, the club chairman has reassured residents they want to reconnect with the community once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

He also said Bracknell Rugby Football Club is not under threat of closure, as expressed by worried residents earlier this week.

Ian Wilson said: "We have recently launched a crowdfunding project. We are hoping to raise up to £10,000. This will go towards improving the facilities at the club for everyone. This type of thing is not possible within the current finances. Our current financial position is stable although there will be more austerity to come and we will always make sure we use any cash we have very wisely.

"Restarting sport and socialising is a big need for a lot of people in a post COVID world. Everyone will have suffered in some way or another during the pandemic and I believe that Bracknell Rugby Club can play a vital role in helping to reconnect the community as we start to get back to normal.

"Our focus now is on keeping a future for the club whilst maintaining our ambitions for growth on and off the pitch.

"In terms of rugby the important thing is how we come back to being the successful rugby club this town deserves.

"We want the club to be accessible to all. Offering more access to our facilities both for rugby or just to socialise and meet up with friends and family.

"We have ideas on how we grow and develop our facilities into something we can all be proud of. Whenever this is we want the whole of the Bracknell community to feel part of it."
