Coronavirus in Berkshire round up - Friday, February 19

Public Health England has recorded the lab-confirmed cases in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of Friday, February 19 at 4pm, bring the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 52,847, according to Public Health England.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Reading - 14 cases, 10,324 total

West Berkshire - 15 cases, 5,941 total

Bracknell - 13 cases, 6,711 total

Wokingham - 14 cases, 7,720 total

Slough - 43 cases, 14,277 total

Windsor and Maidenhead - 11 cases, 7,874 total

There have now been 4,095,269 people across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The total number of deaths - those with Covid-19 listed on their death certificate - across the UK has now reached 129,498.

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Reading - 153.9

West Berkshire - 102.9

Bracknell - 127.3

Wokingham - 130.3

Slough - 179.2

Windsor and Maidenhead - 181

In today's national coronavirus news:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged world leaders to work together to ensure the whole world is vaccinated against coronavirus.

Addressing a virtual meeting of G7 leaders from 10 Downing Street, Mr Johnson said: "Science is finally getting the upper hand on Covid, which is a great, great thing and long overdue.

"But there is no point in us vaccinating our individual populations - we've got to make sure the whole world is vaccinated because this is a global pandemic and it's no use one country being far ahead of another, we've got to move together.

"So, one of the things that I know that colleagues will be wanting to do is to ensure that we distribute vaccines at cost around the world - make sure everybody gets the vaccines that they need so that the whole world can come through this pandemic together."

Boris Johnson also urged the G7 leaders to work together on "building back better" from the pandemic.

The Prime Minister said it was a slogan that US president Joe Biden has used, adding: "I think he may have nicked it from us but I certainly nicked it from somewhere else - probably some UN disaster relief programme."

Mr Biden could be seen laughing on the video call on the screen inside the Cabinet Room.

Mr Johnson continued: "I think that this is the right moment for us all to focus on the other great natural challenge about which we've been warned time and time and time again.

"We can't ignore it - the warnings have been even clearer than they were for Covid - and that is the problem of climate change, and that's why we're going to be working very hard to get some great things done at G7 on our plans for the Cop26 summit that we are holding along with our Italian friends in Glasgow in November.

"It's great, by the way, that Joe (Biden) has brought the United States back into the Paris Climate Change Accords - a great step forward."

Boris Johnson said he wanted to ensure that "building back better" and the "green technology that we are all going to use to tackle climate change" delivers the "hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of new green collar jobs that we know it can produce".

"Jobs and growth is what we are going to need after this pandemic and I think that the build back better operation offers the right way forward," the Prime Minister said.
