THE TRANSFORMATION of Princess Square’s former Sainsbury’s will create a couple of empty stores in the town, it has been confirmed.

Sports Direct and GAME will be moving into the former supermarket space alongside Evans Cycles and USC, a clothing retailer which sells branded clothing.

Of these four brands, Sports Direct and GAME already have stores at The Peel Centre and on High Street respectively.

Residents questioned what this move would mean for the existing Sports Direct and GAME stores following the announcement.

And now it has been confirmed the brands are indeed relocating across town rather than opening up additional stores.

A spokesperson for the Frasers Group, which owns the four brands moving into Sainsbury’s, said the existing stores will be closing.

They also confirmed the staff will be relocated from the existing shops, so the moves will not result in any jobs losses.
