EARLEY is the area of Wokingham that recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases last week.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

The latest figures show 240 people tested positive for the virus in Wokingham between January 28 and February 4. That’s 115 fewer than the previous week.

Wokingham’s seven-day infection rate now stands at 140.3 cases per 100,000. It has been falling steadily since it peaked at 607.2 when the third national lockdown began on January 4.

In Earley, 23 people tested positive for the virus between January 28 and February 4.

There were 17 confirmed cases in Shinfield, 16 in Wokingham East, 15 in South Lake and 15 in Wokingham Town.

Lower Earley South recorded 15 cases and Spencers Wood and Swallowfield recorded another 15.

In Sonning and Woodley North, 14 people tested positive and there were 13 confirmed cases in Winnersh.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the government will announce its “roadmap” for exiting lockdown in the week beginning February 22.

He has also said the government is aiming to reopen schools on March 8.
