DEDICATED beavers and cubs have helped raised thousands to refurbish their 90-year-old scout hut.

The 1st South Ascot Scout Group in Church Road, Ascot, has seen major improvements to its historic site following a year of hard work.

For many years the beavers and cubs had been carrying out their scouting activities inside the hut with no heating or insulation.

A major face lift was needed for the hut as broken panels of wood were clinging on for dear life, whilst holes in the roof allowed cold air inside.

Fiona Jones, Group Scout Leader, said: “I am thrilled that we have a refurbished Scout Hut for not only this group of young people but for future generations of Beavers, Cubs & Scout to use.

"I am very thankful to all of the companies and individuals who helped us realise this project.”

After spending the spring and summer of last year fundraising, MTN Solutions started work on the project in the autumn and completed it just before Christmas.

The Scout Hut has been fully insulated with new external cladding, the roof is brand new, the floor sanded and varnished, storage areas reconfigured and a new staircase to access the mezzanine level.

Double glazed windows have been installed in the kitchen and toilets as well as heaters, keeping it warm in the colder months.

Improvements have not finished yet, as attention has now turned to the garden area with both the front and back gardens in need of landscaping.

The 1st South Ascot Scout Group are still actively fundraising to landscape the front and back gardens and any donations are gratefully received.
