GOOGLE is using location data gathered from phones to help public health officials understand how people’s movements have changed in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The reports use data from people who have opted in to storing their location history with Google to help illustrate the degree to which people are adhering to government instructions.

The Covid-19 Community Mobility Report dated January 8 looks at data in Bracknell Forest over several weeks with the most recent data representing approximately 2–3 days ago (this is how long it

takes to produce the reports).

The data shows there has been an increase in the number of people visiting parks - a 10 per cent increase compared to the baseline.

Similarly, more people have been sitting in their homes - a 25 per cent increase compared to the baseline.

Bracknell News:

Back in October, less people were sitting at home with 15 per cent compared to the baseline.

More than half of people are now working in offices, with a 56 per cent decrease compared to the baseline.

Less people have been using trains and buses as the data shows public transport use has gone down by 67 per cent in Bracknell Forest.

Trips to supermarkets and pharmacies has also decreased with 26 per cent compared to the baseline.

Finally, less people were out shopping in the town (a 64 per cent decrease compared to the baseline).
