'Drink plenty of whisky' is just one tip these elderly residents have to offer to get you through the New Year.

Staff at The Pinehurst Care Centre in Crowthorne asked 12 elderly ladies what tips they would give to living a good life in 2021.

The activity is part of their annual tradition where the residents aged between 84 to 105 share their pearls of wisdom to younger residents in the community.

In a bid to share some positivity to the Crowthorne and Wokingham community, the care home shared pictures of the residents holding up cards featuring their best advice.

The post has gone viral online with more than 45,000 people having seen and shared the wise words of guidance from residents.

One tip shared from 105-year-old Claire is to "Be wicked" as well as "Life’s for living. You can’t please all the people all the time.”

Whilst 96-year-old Helen thinks her best advice for the New Year is to "Be happy. Do unto others as they would do unto you. Drink plenty of Whisky (any given amount)."

Victoria Pembroke, activity manager, said: “This is something we’ve done for a few years now, and the images have been shared with the residents’ families, but particularly over the last year, we’ve been trying to engage with our wider community more through social media – as face-to-face opportunities have been limited – so for the first time, we’ve posted them for everyone to see.”
