BRACKNELL Forest ended last month with a coronavirus infection rate seven times higher than it started it.

The government’s coronavirus data is published daily but with a five-day lag, so yesterday’s figures gave the true data for December 31.

According to data reported January 5, Bracknell Forest ended the month (and the year) with a seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people of 784.2.

This was a small drop from the true data for December 30 (reported January 4), which saw Bracknell Forest record its highest ever weekly infection rate at 788.3.

The December 31 figure is more than seven times higher than the figure given for December 1, which was 103.6 (reported on December 6).

Bracknell Forest now has the second-highest weekly infection rate in Berkshire, behind only Slough.

The borough did see a slight dip before the end of the month, with true data for Christmas Day (December 25) revealing a weekly infection rate of 536.1, down from 585.1 on Christmas Eve (December 24).

The rate shot up again on Boxing Day (December 26) to 607.9, according to data publishes on December 31.
