A MAN is in hospital after an explosion caused a “horrendous” fire at a local residential park.

Ambulances and fire crews rushed to Cranbourne Hall Park, in the north of Bracknell Forest near Windsor, at 3.30am on Saturday, January 2, after residents reported an explosion in a caravan.

After arriving at the scene, the emergency services found a mobile home had caught fire and had spread to a nearby van.

According to the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, a man and a woman were placed in the care of the paramedics at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said the male patient was injured in the explosion and was taken to Wexham Park Hospital.

Fire crews tackled the blaze for more than four hours, and the ambulance Service remained on scene until around 6am.

An eyewitness said the first bang was followed by an even bigger explosion around half-an-hour later.

Jackie, a resident at Cranbourne Hall Park for more than 30 years, told the News the explosion was “huge”.

Jackie added: “It was awful.

“If the fire brigade hadn’t got there when they did the second home would have gone up in flames too.

“We were all stunned. We were all in shock.

“It was horrendous, it really was.”

A spokesperson for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 3:27am on Saturday, 2 January, we received reports of a fire at Cranbourne Hall Park, Windsor.

“Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Slough and crews from Windsor, Ascot, Langley, Bracknell and Maidenhead were sent to the scene, alongside an Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead and three Officers.

“Crews worked to extinguish the fire using four ground monitors and four hose reels and one man and one woman were placed in the care of South Central Ambulance Service.

“Crews were on the scene for approximately four hours and 20 minutes.”

A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service added: “We sent to the scene three ambulance crews, our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), a response car, and three paramedic officers.

“One person was injured as a result of the incident, the patient, a male, was assessed and treated by our crews at the scene for serious injuries and was taken to Wexham Park Hospital.

“Our resources remained on scene until approx. 6am working alongside partner agencies.”
