THE Met Office has issued a weather warning heading into the final few days before Christmas.

Residents in Berkshire are being warned of heavy rainfall which could lead to flooding and disruption.

It is part of the yellow weather warning that has been issued for much of the south east of England and is currently in place from Wednesday, December 23, at 6am to Thursday, December 24, at 6am.

In Reading, residents can expect a grey and overcast day today with a 50 per cent chance of light rain from 6pm and intermittently throughout the evening into the night.

Bracknell residents can expect the same grey outlook with rain moving in slightly earlier at about 5pm.

Temperatures are expected to remain around 13C today.

Forecasters predict tomorrow's weather picture to be largely the same for both areas although temperatures are expected to drop slightly to 10C.

Heading into Wednesday, the sun is expected to make a brief appearance along with light showers about 9am with the rain remaining in place for most of the day as the yellow weather warning kicks in. Heavy rain is forecast from midday onwards for both areas.

Christmas Day is expected to bring a little bit more sun between 9am and 3pm, and temperatures are expected to sit around 4C. A similar picture being predicted for Boxing Day.

The Met Office has issued advice for those within the yellow weather warning area for rain. It said there is a small chance of homes and businesses being flooded, and a small chance of fast flowing water or deep floodwater causing hazardous conditions.

Forecasters added that train and bus services could be delayed and also warned drivers to take care if out on the roads.
