ALMOST half the Covid-19 cases recorded in Wokingham last week have been traced back to five areas.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

The latest figures (published December 8) show 226 people tested positive for the virus across Wokingham between November 26 and December 3.

Almost half of those cases were recorded in the following five areas: Wokingham West and South (33), Shinfield (31), Winnersh (16), Southlake (16) and Wokingham Town (16).

Earley recorded 15 cases and 12 people tested positive in Arborfield.

Confirmed cases recorded in other areas of Wokingham:

  • Spencers Wood and Swallowfield – 9
  • Barkham and Woosehill – 9
  • Woodley East – 9
  • Wokingham North and Hurst – 9
  • Sonning and Woodley – 8
  • Woodley South – 8
  • Twyford East and Wargrave – 6
  • Twyford West and Charvil – 5
  • Lower Earley South – 8
  • Lower Earley North – 4
  • Crowthorne North  – 4
  • Wokingham East  – 4
  • Finchampstead  – 4

Wokingham’s seven-day infection rate is 132.1 cases per 100,000 and it has been rising since November 29, when it stood at 99.9.

People in Wokingham have been living under Tier 2 restrictions since the second national lockdown ended on December 2.

That’s because the government introduced a tougher tier system and decided to impose Berkshire-wide restrictions (with the exception of Slough).

But the restrictions, which prevent separate households from meeting indoors, will be reviewed by the government on December 16.

The leaders of Wokingham Borough Council are hoping for a return to Tier 1.
