THE Reading Toy Run, which sees motorcyclists deliver Christmas gifts to charities, will be slightly different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event which would have been celebrating its 35th anniversary this year usually sees up to 2,500 motorcyclists join together before Christmas.

Bikers meet in Shinfield with children's gifts before leaving in convoy to High Close School in Wokingham where the gifts are delivered.

These presents are then redistributed to local charities by Barnardo's in time for Christmas.

This year, organiser Denis Denmead said the event will be slightly different and instead of being a Toy Run it will be a Toy Dump.

There will be no convoy of bikers but on December 6 motorcyclists will be able to deliver presents to High Close School between 10am and 3pm.

People wishing to donate gifts there will need to book a specific time slot in advance.

On December 5, people will have the opportunity to drop presents at Reading's Harley Davidson shop too.

There is also a Just Giving page people can donate to if they prefer.

This money will be passed onto the charities which have been supported by the Toy Run throughout the years.

As part of the 35th anniversary celebrations, the group is asking bikers to send in pictures of various Toy Runs to feature in a calendar.

The best 12 photographs will be selected for a 2021 calendar.
