Case numbers have fallen in Reading for the first time in two months, while they have rocketed in Wokingham, going up by almost 100 compared to the previous week.

3. Rejected plans for 197 homes in the countryside re-emerge as developers try again

Developers hoping to build on Home Farm were rebuffed by the council back in October 2019 but now the plans have been re-submitted.

The initial rejection came after planning bosses said the new homes would:

  • Harm an area of open countryside
  • Harm Home Farm as a listed building
  • Be unsafe to access
  • Not adequately protect biodiversity at the site
  • Have ‘insufficient’ affordable housing
  • Create too much pressure on the roads and other services in the area

4. Drunk driver jailed for crash at level crossing

A drunken motorist who crashed his car at a level crossing in Wokingham just moments before a train came along and smashed into it, has been jailed.

A judge who locked up the Bracknell driver said it was 'pure luck' that the train did not derail, causing many of the passengers to be either badly injured or even killed.

5. 'DANGEROUS' man attacked deaf victim for car in Bracknell

Bracknell News:

A "violent and dangerous" man has been jailed after stealing a car and attacking the owner in Bracknell.

Daniel Kiely, 41, of no fixed abode, was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict in a trial that lasted six days at Reading Crown Court.

On July 20, 2017, the victim, a 51-year-old man, was driving his car back to his home address in Mount Pleasant, Bracknell.
