PLANS revealing which roads in the Wokingham borough are to be repaired next were released by the council's transport boss last week.

Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport for the Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) gave the update in the council meeting on October 29, and posted her comments online the same night.

According to the councillor, the Coronavirus lockdown meant that the £6.1 million road repair plans were 'accelerated' due to a more than 50 per cent decrease in road usage.

"Work originally scheduled to start in May was brought forward to early April", Cllr Jorgensen said, allowing the council to work on key roads such as the Showcase Roundabout, Winnersh, A4 Bath Road, Sonning, Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane in Wokingham, as well as Thames Street in Sonning.

In the road repairs update, Cllr Jorgensen revealed that roads in Great Lea, Three Mile Cross, Davis Street, Hurst, Church Road, Swallowfield, are next on the list.

Cllr Jorgensen said: "During the summer we completed a large programme of surface treatment works, including around 11km of micro-asphalting on 67 streets and around 17km of surface dressing on 22 streets.

"Surface dressing and micro-asphalt treatments are used to seal the existing road surface from water ingress and add texture to road surface which enhances its skid resistance.

"Both these types of surface treatment will prolong the life of a road by up to ten years.

"Alongside the 17 accelerated plane an inlay resurfacing schemes that were completed at the beginning of the year we have just started work on phase two of the plane and inlay resurfacing works and we anticipate that a further 13 streets will be resurfaced during this programme."

From November to December, the road repairs planned include a resurfacing of Crockhamwell Road, Woodley, Longwater Road, Finchampstead, and Basingstoke Road in Swallowfield and Three Mile Cross.
