A LOCAL pub has been left 'humbled' after a punter served up £1,000 cash to help feed hungry children this half term.

The Lord Raglan Pub in Wokingham was gifted the generous donation as part of its efforts to offer free school meals to children during the holidays.

It follows footballer Marcus Rashford's campaign to ensure no children go hungry this half term.

The 22 year old's campaign went viral after MPs rejected a bid from Labour, backed by the footballer, to extend free school meals over the school holidays until Easter 2021.

Since, local restaurants and community groups have pulled together to offer help in half term.

The Denmark Street pub is among those who have pledges to donate free, healthy, lunches to any child who needs them next week.

Owners the Big Smoke Brew Co has since tweeted: "It’s been an extremely humbling and emotional 24 hours for us; responding to the people who have asked for help and to those of you who have asked to get involved in some way. Love and respect to you all. X #ENDCHILDFOODPOVERTY #weareallinthistogether"

A second tweet followed soon after adding: "And to the person that just came in and handed over £1,000 in cash at our Wokingham pub to help the cause, you are a legend."

The campaign has prompted an outpouring of community support and a number of places have stepped forward to offer free school meals and support.
