DRIVERS in Wokingham are facing almost three months of disruption as an £800,000 resurfacing project is about to get underway.

Wokingham Borough Council says the project will get underway on October 19 and it is due to be completed in December.

Contractors will be replacing the worn-out road surfaces with new material.

According to the council, most of the work will be done overnight – between 8pm and 6am – but some of the work will be carried out between 9.30am and 4pm.

The following roads will be resurfaced:

  • Hartsbourne Road in Earley
  • Headley Road in Woodley
  • Betchworth Avenue in Earley
  • Rushey Way in Earley
  • Great Lea in Three Mile Cross
  • Church Road in Swallowfield
  • Nine Mile Ride in Finchampstead
  • David Street in Hurst
  • Crockhamwell Road in Woodley
  • Longwater Road in Finchampstead
  • Basingstoke Road in Swallowfield

This is part of the council’s £8 million road improvements project, which is being carried out in 2020/21.

Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways, said: “Improving road surfaces is something we know is a top priority for our residents and our extensive programme for this year continues through the autumn.

“Ensuring residents can have smooth journeys on safe roads, whether in their vehicles, on public transport or by cycling, means keeping surfaces in a good condition.

“Officers continue to inspect and monitor all roads across Wokingham Borough and this shapes where the work is taking place.

“Roads such as Nine, Mile Ride, Rushey Way and Crockhamwell Road are vital for being able to get around the borough easily, but also reflect where work is most needed based on our information.”
