VIOLENT crime reportings in Reading are continuing to grow each year.

Newly updated Thames Valley Police (TVP) figures reveal that reportings of violence have escalated by almost four per cent since 2017, with instances rising year on year.

Victim based crime including violence, homicide, violence resulting in injury, violence without injury (excluding harassment) and harassment has collectively become more common when compared with previous years' figures.

Cumulatively, 14,326 such crimes were recorded in the 2017/2018 period.

This rose to 14,620 the following year and grew by a similar amount in the last year to 15,194.

This presents an overall increase of 3.9 per cent from 2017 - 2020.

Reports involving violence against a person stood at 3,623 in 2017/2018 - this jumped to 4,902 in 2018/2019 and climbed further to 5,700 in the 2019/2020 period.

This was an individual increase of 16.3 per cent.

Reportings of harassment also saw a significant climb of 20.5 per cent; three years ago, 284 cases were recorded, before 629 instances were seen the following year and 758 reportings for the latest year's data.
