A MOBILE coronavirus testing unit will be in town over the coming days.

The facility will be based at Bracknell Leisure Centre from Thursday, 24 to Friday, 25 September.

Only residents with pre-booked appointments can get tested, however.

The council has warned people will be turned away if they turn up without a booking.

Appointments can be made by anyone who fits national guidelines for testing.

This means anyone with symptoms — such as a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change in your sense of smell or taste — is eligible for testing.

You can book an appointment here if you are an essential worker, and here if you are not.

Some residents have struggled to get appointments in recent weeks with several asked to travel miles to get tested.

One reader told the News her nearest centre was 79 miles away when she tried to make a booking in the second week of September.

Following the national shortage, Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, chairman of the Local Outbreak Engagement Board, said: “Understandably, some people may wish to be tested ‘just in case’ but if you aren’t symptomatic or haven’t been asked to test by an official organisation like the NHS or council, please do not apply for a test.”

Latest available data shows 484 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Bracknell Forest up to 22 September.

This figure marks an increase of 21 from the 463 recorded one week earlier.
