A brutal attack on the landlord of Cippenham's Earl of Cornwall pub has left the landlord needing more than 30 stitches in his face - after he tried to get three customers to obey Covid regulations.

A man was drinking in the pub in Cippenham Lane with two women at about 10.45pm on Friday when he went to the bar to buy more drinks.

He was asked to sit down in order to comply with the COVID regulations, then ejected when he refused.

Shortly afterwards, he returned and attacked staff, smashing a glass in the face of the landlord.

The incident has appalled the village of Cippenham.

Cllr James Swindlehurst - leader of Slough Council who represents Cippenham Green, said: “We are all trying to play part in keeping the community safe – its appalling that in trying to do this the landlord was attacked.

"I know the pub well, it’s usually a welcoming and friendly place and and I was genuinely upset to hear he had been subject to such violence.”

Council cabinet member Natassa Pantelic, who represents Cippenham Meadows, said: "The landlord was simply trying to do the right thing in protecting customers and staff in his pub and this attack is totally abhorrent, no one should be subject to such brutal behaviour for trying to do the right thing."
