A CONCERNING rise in stabbings has rocked the town recently, with Reading seeing a steep increase in such attacks throughout the last couple of months.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) are continuing to investigate each incident, while residents have expressed concerns at the sudden, frightening trend in the area.

A timeline of recent events shows the amount of attacks using weapons which have taken place in Reading.

Below, a map shows some of the stabbings that have taken place in the area from August 1 to present (September 14).

Timeline of events

  • AUGUST 2: 'Mass brawl' sees man stabbed on Kingsbridge Road, Whitley
  • AUGUST 4: Two men arrested after man stabbed on London Road
  • AUGUST 9: Fight between two groups sees one man stabbed in Strathy Close. Three men were arrested and later released on bail
  • AUGUST 15: Two women injured after being stabbed in Combe Road. A 14-year-old was arrested and later released on bail
  • AUGUST 15: Stabbing occurs following altercation between two men
  • AUGUST 17: Woman injured after being stabbed in Scours Lane. David Rackett has been charged with attempted murder
  • AUGUST 28: A man from Reading was among those arrested after a stabbing in Bracknell. Matthew Viccars has been charged with one count of wounding with intent and one count of possessing an offensive weapon
  • SEPTEMBER 12: Attempted murder investigation launched after two 16-year-olds were attacked in a double stabbing in Lucey Close

Reading Chronicle:

Following Saturday's incident, police have said there will be an increased presence of officers in the area and a Section 60 order has been put in place, meaning police will now be able to stop and search anyone in south Reading and west Reading.

This includes Tilehurst between the A4 Bath Road, the A329 Oxford Road, and West Reading Train Station.

Officers will also have greater powers across Coley, Whitley, and areas from the A4 Bath Road, A33, M4, Shinfield Road, and the IDR.
