A DISGRUNTLED resident feels puzzled as to why he's been fined now after six years of parking in the same spot.

Colin Drumm, who lives in Appledore, Bracknell, received a penalty notice on his van for parking in front of his garage.

The resident of 20 years said he ha always parkin his car to the site of his garage and believes it does not "restrict access for pedestrians" nor is it a safety hazard.

He also adds the increased cars results him in having to park there.

However, Silva Homes, who own the land explained that the parking enforcement company has been regulating the area for more than two years and it is in force to prevent unknown cars from blocking drives or garages.

Colin said: "Some time ago, 18 months or more, PCM placed signage up around the estate stating as per the photo that vehicles could not park in front of garages or on verges. I believe that there was some local push back at the time. Since then, to my knowledge this has not been enforced and certainly I have not received any penalty notices.

"However, on Monday morning, I did receive a penalty notice for parking in the same spot that I always park in. However, despite there being numerous examples of other vehicles clearly contravening these regulations, no other car received a penalty notice.

"I am very conscious that there is a parking problem in the local area, and most residents work well together to resolve this. However, to randomly ticket the odd vehicle after such a long period of no action is surely not what the council were trying to achieve when PCM were engaged.

"The rules should be consistent or not at all."

Dasos Christou, executive director for customer relations, said: “PCM has been regulating our parking for over two years, following a series of consultations with our customers. This parking enforcement was introduced to help our customers, by preventing unknown vehicles from blocking their drives or garages.

"Of course, people who own the garage they are parking in front of cannot understand why this is not permitted but it’s the only way it can be enforced.

"I want to thank Colin for bringing this issue to our attention and reassure him that we will speak to PCM to ensure that the approach is applied consistently across all of the areas we have controlled parking in place.”
