DRIVERS will have to take alternative routes this weekend as a section of the M4 will be closed.

Highways England has said the M4 will be closed in both directions between Junction 6 and 8/9.

This affects the motorway between Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

The closure will be in place after midnight on Friday, July 24 all the way through to Monday, July 27.

Diversion routes will be in place and traffic will use the A308M, A308, A332 and A355.

Construction continues on the £848 million upgrade, which will see 32 miles of motorway converted and is due to be completed in 2022.

The motorway closure is for the construction of the new Wood Lane bridge.

Bracknell Forest Council have alerted drivers in the area to the planned closures, which will affect drivers in Bracknell and Reading using the M4 to drive to Slough/London.
