A MAN who was arrested last year in connection with the death of Malcolm Callender, who died after being injured outside a former Reading nightclub, has been released as police determine that "no unlawful incident" occurred.

Police were called on the night of Friday, April 12 2019, to Matchbox nightclub in Friar Street after a report of a disagreement between two men.

Mr Callender, 44, of Crowthorne, died after being taken to hospital.

A post mortem examination at the time revealed that the cause of his death was a "blunt force trauma" to the head.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident, which was downgraded initially from a murder inquiry to a manslaughter investigation.

He has since been released.

A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said yesterday (June 19): "Following an extensive investigation, it has been established that no unlawful incident occurred.

"A file has been sent to the coroner and no further action will be taken against anyone in connection with this."
