A PETITION to make drive thrus mark the customer's registration details on the packaging has been started by a councillor for Wokingham.
Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, Earley resident and Wokingham borough executive for Highways started the new petition on June 9, in the hopes that the idea would allow residents who litter the packaging to be fined.
Cllr Jorgensen said: "My petition is to make fast food drive thrus mark packaging with car registration.

"Neighbourhoods up and down the country are blighted by carelessly tossed fast food packaging from cars.
"I would like to see the packaging marked with the car registration of the person who buys the food so that they can be traces and fined for any littering."
The petition has caused controversy among Wokingham residents on Facebook, with one online commenter saying: "How are you going to get a sound conviction?
"How do you prove it hasn't been taken out of a bin and chucked. Do you fine the registered owner, who will claim it wasn't them?"

Another Facebook user said: "It’s a nice idea but when you walk along Lower Earley Way there are beer cans, crisp packets, tissues scratch cards, the odd shoe, I have even seen condoms and lots more.
"Not sure you can just target takeaways."
The petition has been signed by five people so far, and is currently being checked for approval by the government.
