Changes at Broadmoor Hospital (planning reference: 20/00271/NMA)

A £250 million redevelopment of Crowthorne’s mental health hospital got underway in 2014 after permission for the plan was granted in 2012.

The new site opened at the end of 2019.

Famously, the site used to be an asylum for the criminally insane before becoming a high-security hospital in 1948.

Current patients include Peter Sutcliffe, also known as the Yorkshire Ripper.

The redevelopment proposed to demolish and part-demolish various parts of the buildings at the site.
