PREPARATIONS are underway to sanitise the town centre ahead of 'non-essential' shops reopening on June 15.

The Lexicon has announced today their detailed plans on how they will ensure Covid-19 guidelines are met before they reopen the shops.

So far, pharmacies and food stores have remained open during the coronavirus outbreak, but now they anticipate more people will visit the town centre in two weeks time.

The town will use a special electrostatic fogging treatment which releases a fine mist to sanitise key areas to destroy lurking coronavirus and harmful bacteria or mould.

As such, the town will also install wall mounted sanitising stations throughout the town, social distancing queues and one way systems in more confined spaces such as Princess Square and The Avenue car park.

People are also encouraged to shop alone and parents are asked to keep their children close by.

Rob Morris, general manager at The Lexicon says: “We are really looking forward to reopening The Lexicon and have been planning extensively to ensure that shoppers feel safe when they return to the town centre. Increased emphasis on deep cleaning and sanitation will be in place together with appropriate reminders regarding social distancing to help make it as safe an experience as possible.

“We are working closely with retailers, which will also have individual safety measures in place.

Please be patient as stores will be limiting the numbers of customers allowed into the store and there may be some queuing before you are able to enter.

“We are encouraging visitors to shop alone, but understand that this isn’t always possible and would ask parents to keep children close by and within the same two metre zone.”

The Lexicon will open from Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday, 11am to 5pm but visitors should check opening hours with individual stores.

Town centre facilities such as toilets, and the Changing Places facility will also be open during these hours, with social distancing measures and increased cleaning being carried out.

All car parks will be open, with visitors asked to park with space around them where possible and to be conscious of others while getting in and out of cars.

All lifts will also be operating but limited to people from one household at a time, in line with current Government instructions.

Please respect the safety of fellow visitors, retail workers and The Lexicon staff by keeping a two metre distance and using the hand sanitiser available and do not visit the town centre if you are feeling unwell.
