A FAKE festival due to be held in Reading this year has been cancelled, organisers have confirmed.

The Fake Festivals 2020 UK Tour and the Big Fake Festival 2020 have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Reading’s Fake Festival was supposed to take place at Prospect Park on Saturday, August 8, inside a giant marquee.

The decision comes after Reading Festival organisers announced their popular event had too been cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Fake Festivals website said: “Unfortunately, it is time for us to cancel the remaining dates for the 2020 Fake Festival tour and The Big Fake Festival 2020.”

Each year, there are various Fake Festivals held throughout the UK with tribute bands performing.

Tour locations include Nottingham, Swansea, Swindon, Manchester and, of course, Reading.

The website added: “Clearly, this will come as no surprise to anyone as we have all been adapting to the new norm of 2020.

“We were looking forward to a great season, squeezing in an extra 2 tour dates and an even bigger ‘Big Fake Festival’ but it’s just not meant to be for this year.

“Staying safe and supporting our communities, key workers, family and friends, however we can, is the most important thing for this year.”

Plans for next year have already been made with the website explaining "new 2021 dates will be released here soon".

Festival goers can subscribe to the 'First in Queue' notifications on the website to keep updated.

Regarding refunds, organisers said “these will be automatically issued within 14 days, you don’t need to contact us and you will get email notification”.

Fake Festivals thanked their customers for their “ongoing support and kind words”.
