Swedish chain Ikea have revealed when their stores across England and Northern Ireland will reopen.

This is what you need to know.

When will Ikea reopen?

The company will welcome back customers from Monday, June 1.

What new rules will be in place?

A spokesman from Ikea said: "The safety of our customers and co-workers remains the highest priority so we have been working hard to welcome you back safely.

"We’ve introduced new measures so you can enjoy a safe and comfortable shopping experience.

"So we hope to be saying a socially-distanced ‘hej’ to you soon."

  • Social distance shopping: To ensure a safe shopping experience, Ikea have asked if they can, to shop alone. Only bring one other person from the same household, or if shoppers need special assistance or if they need to bring your children with you.

There will be a queuing system outside to manage entry into the store.

Signage will be displayed throughout the store to help customers stick to social distancing guidelines.

  • Extra cleaning and safety precautions: Staff will be doing extra scrubbing, cleaning, and sterilising to make the whole store as safe as possible. Hand sanitisers will be stationed throughout the store, as will new protective screens at key points such as checkouts. Customers have been advised to come prepared with ready-made lists and their own bags.
  • Cards not cash: Ikea will only accept cashless payments to reduce the amount of contact between shoppers and staff.

The chain have also installed safety screens at key points across the store including checkouts to provide extra protection.

The reason why stores in Scotland and Wales haven't reopened yet

Ikea added: "For now, in line with the guidance of local authorities, our stores in Scotland and Wales will remain closed.

What other features won't reopen in June?

The spokesman said: "We will also not reopen all of our Planning Studios or Collection Points in London for the time being.

"We have also taken the difficult decision not to reopen our Coventry store to customers, previously planned to close this summer.

"We’d like to thank our hard-working co-workers in Coventry for their enormous contribution in the 13 years we were open there. "

Will Ikea's restaurants reopen too?

No, restaurants will remain closed until Ikea deem it safe to re-open them again.

But its not all bad news for Ikea's army of food fans, their Bistro will be open for takeaways, and the Swedish Food Market will be open for those make-at-home meatballs and Swedish favourites.

Will play areas and the creche return?

Ikea's Småland crèche and other indoor and outdoor play areas will remain closed for now.

What will the opening hours be?

  • Monday to Saturday: 10am to 8pm
  • Sunday: 11am to 5pm
