A DETERMINED 10-year-old from Appleton has raised £700 for Warrington Hospital’s Maternity Unit by completing 100 laps of St Monica’s school field.

Mac Finn’s inspirational efforts were on behalf of a grateful Appleton family, whose two-year-old daughter was born at 23 weeks and spent more than a year in hospital.

Mac’s mum, Jo Woods, was overwhelmed when she realised her son’s charity challenge was the equivalent of running a half-marathon.

She said: “I was so proud of Mac- I had no idea it would equate to a half-marathon completing 100 laps.

“Mac was amazing throughout and I think that day I was the proudest mother on the earth, and will be a day we shall both remember.”

John Marciniak, deputy head teacher at St Monica’s Catholic Primary School added: “At St Monica’s, part of our mission statement is “Never Stop Trying.”

“Mac embodied this statement with his incredible effort, and all the time doing so for a most wonderful cause.”

Karen Batt was also thankful for Mac’s fundraising on behalf of her daughter Betty, who has a close connection to Warrington Maternity Unit.

Karen said: “The unit have looked after our family with the birth of our four children.

“Sadly our 3rd baby, George, came super early and left us after two hours.

“Then came our rainbow miracle Betty, who decided she was going to make an extra early entrance to the world at 23 weeks.

“She battled hard to stay with us and came home after 13 months in hospital and hasn’t stopped smiling!

“We are so humbled and grateful to Mac Finn, a classmate of our older daughter Martha, for fundraising on Betty’s behalf and doing such an amazing job!”
