Persimmon Homes Thames Valley has recognised the good work being done by the volunteers of 'Ascot People', with a £1,000 donation through its Community Champions, a national funding programme where charities and groups can apply for up to £1,000 to match funds they have raised themselves.

Ascot People was set up by Honor Abell and Lisa Vigurs and is currently focusing all its work on helping the local community through the crisis.

Honor said: “Our covid work is all being carried out by the most amazing volunteers.

“So many of our members are involved in the many different initiatives that are going on at this time.

"There is a group called ‘Scrubs Glorious Scrubs’ where volunteers are making scrubs for local hospitals, while other volunteers are collecting and delivering food and supplies to the NHS, hospitals, care homes, GPs, air ambulance, ambulance drivers, foodbanks and other charities.

“We have street collections for donations for items for those in need, there are volunteers making 3D PPE shields on printers while others are sewing masks and making drawstring bags out of pillowcases for NHS staff to wash their clothes separately.

“The community has really pulled together and I can’t thank Persimmon Homes enough for this wonderful donation.”

Scrubs Glorious Scrubs has helped by making much-needed scrubs out of donated bed linen, has attracted the support of well-known celebrities including TV hardman Ross Kemp, DJ Chris Evans and This Morning’s Holly Willoughby.

Rachel Faulkner, sales director at Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “Ascot People are doing an amazing job supporting local people and the NHS during the current crisis, and we were more than happy to do our part with a Community Champions grant.

“Persimmon Homes Thames Valley continues to receive a fantastic response to its Community Champions. Charities and groups which were previously unsuccessful can apply again and we urge them to visit our website and submit an application form.”
