It comes after the 43-year-old saw a harrowing picture of a NHS nurse looking 'very sore' from all the personal protective equipment (PPE) she was wearing.

He said: "That was enough to convince me to do it. Our sensational NHS are doing some amazing work so I want to try and support them.

"I felt that if all those doctors and nurses can do what they are doing in those conditions then I can spend a day walking."

So far, the student support worker from Edgbarrow School has raised a massive £2,873 on his online fundraising page, and donations are still pouring in.

Despite this, the challenge was tough for Matt as he describes changing his outfit roughly 20 times just to make the walk exciting.

His family, including his wife and children helped support him by walking beside him in the garden.

Matt added: "I hit a wall at about 16 miles and was finding it tough but messages from friends throughout the day helped hugely.

"Being so warm I drank plenty of fluids all day and ate as I walked. I only paused to change outfits and go to the toilet. When I finished I was absolutely delighted and shattered."
