ALL cemeteries in Wokingham will be closed temporarily by the council during the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision was announced by Wokingham Borough Council which detailed how the difficult choice was made following the latest government advice regarding social-distancing.

Some people have been upset by the difficult news, with one person saying on Facebook: "This is such a shame.

"I love to go to my husbands grave, especially as it's now coming up to three years since he died."

This action includes the closure of both private and public cemeteries, regardless of whether Wokingham's council maintains it.

A spokesman for Wokingham Borough Council said: "Following latest government guidance, all cemeteries in Wokingham Borough are now closed.

"We understand that these measures are difficult for many families who are grieving, and want to visit the graves of loved ones.

"This action is however necessary for the health and safety of the wider public. Stay home, save lives."
