THE number of patients who have tested positive for coronavirus in Berkshire has more than doubled in just one day.

Figures from Public Health England, as of 9am yesterday, show numbers had almost hit 200 cases in the county.

It showed 191 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Berkshire.

This is up from the 80 patients recorded by the health authority as of 9am on Thursday, March 26.

It comes as the UK saw its biggest jump in numbers nationally as confirmed cases went up by more than 100 in one day for the first time on Thursday.

In Berkshire, the latest figures are broken down into the following areas:

  • West Berkshire - Figures were up from 18 being reported on Thursday to 32 yesterday.
  • Reading - The numbers jumped from 10 to 25 confirmed patients.
  • Bracknell - There were three cases reported on Thursday and 16 by Friday.
  • Wokingham - Numbers went from 13 confirmed patients to 22 in Wokingham
  • Windsor and Maidenhead - There was a huge rise in these areas from 14 on Thursday to 37 cases by Friday.
  • Slough - The biggest jump in numbers in Berkshire was in Slough where they went from 22 cases to 59.

On a national scale, the latest figures show there are 14,543 confirmed cases in the UK as of 9am on Friday, March 27.

There have been 759 UK deaths in total and 135 patients have recovered.
