NEW CCTV cameras have been introduced to Wokingham town centre, in a bid to combat antisocial behaviour.

Wokingham Borough Council is installing new hi-tech cameras across the centre after a peak of antisocial behaviour problems during winter.

This includes criminal damage to the town's Christmas tree as well as various other crime and theft across the town centre.

The borough council added security cameras to the inside and outside of the town hall last week, and Wokingham Borough Council have fixed cameras to Peach Place, Market Place and Elms Field.

"The town council selected Protec plc for this upgrade and expansion.

"These new very high definition cameras are recording sharply defined images which are readily available for Thames Valley Police officers to use as required.

"The town council installed the cameras in response to criminal damage inflicted on the Christmas tree on Market Place and other instances of anti-social behaviour."
