ROADS across Bracknell Forest are set to benefit from more than £12 million of investment next year.

Only £800,000 of this cash will come from the council’s coffers as money comes in from the department for transport, developer’s contributions and community funding.

Cllr Chris Turrell, Bracknell Forest Council’s (BFC) transport boss, said: “The highway maintenance programme is to keep our roads and pavements in a good, safe condition.

“The last few years have been a real challenge for highway authorities, just in maintaining their networks, let alone improving and developing them.

“At Bracknell Forest, we are well placed, and keeping roads and pavements to a good standard.

“Things can change quickly, particularly as a result of periods of extreme weather. This can affect our works priorities.”

BFC’s top team approved its highways programme at a meeting earlier this week, meaning transport schemes to improve traffic management, capacity, and access, mobility and travel choice, are set to go ahead.

Borough-wide

£70,000 on road safety and speed management measures

Bracknell News:

£400,000 on lamp column replacements across Bracknell Forest

Binfield

£90,000 on a new toucan crossing at Binfield Road junction with Harvest Ride (Frampton Bridge)

£75,000 on a new toucan crossing on Forest Road near Wood Lane

Bracknell

£6.8 million on the A3095 South corridor, which will see the modification of Hanworth Roundabout and Golden Retriever Roundabout to meet increased traffic demands. Work will also see enhancements to the natural environment nearby.

£500,000 on A322 Downshire Way, which is nearly complete. Work here has been taking place to convert the road to a dual carriageway and enhance the nearby natural environment too.

£2 million on the A322/A329 for capacity improvements to the roundabout by the sports centre

Crowthorne

£30,000 on a new zebra crossing on Church Street in Crowthorne

Winkfield and Cranbourne

£30,000 on a new zebra crossing on Lovel Road in Cranbourne
