The following cases were heard at Reading and Slough Magistrates’ Court:

January 27:

ALEXIS KNIGHT, 46, of Bay Road, Bracknell, admitted stealing £200 worth of perfume gift sets from Boots, Bracknell, on January 8. Also admitted stealing perfume, make-up brushes, and a gaming controller worth £200 total from Tesco's, Warfield, on July 12, 2019. Given a conditional discharge for 24 months and ordered to pay £400 compensation. Also ordered to pay £21 victim surcharge and £40 court costs.

ROBERT MITCHELL, 36, of Hillberry, Bracknell, admitted drink-driving in Bagshot Road on January 10. Found to have 101mcg of alcohol per 100ml breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. Also admitted commission of a further offence while subject to a suspended sentence order, for an offence of stalking. Sentenced to prison for 12 weeks, due to previous record. Ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 36 months.

January 29:

ROBERT BAMBRIDGE, 34, of Forest Road, Bracknell, admitted stealing wine worth £70 from a Co-op in Bracknell on October 6, 2019. Also admitted stealing 12 bottles of wine, value unknown, from Co-op in Bracknell, on October 7, 2019. Admitted stealing 11 bottles of wine, value unknown, from Co-op Bracknell on October 8, 2019, and admitted stealing wine worth £68.70 from a Co-op in Bracknell on October 8, 2019. Admitted stealing wine worth £63.04 from Waitrose in Bracknell, on October 10, 2019. Also admitted stealing two cans of Red Bull and 10 bottles of wine, valued at £68 from a Co-op in Bracknell on October 15, 2019. Commission of a further offence while subject to a suspended sentence order. Originally convicted of theft charges coming to a minimum total of £1,913.93, some values unknown, and failure to surrender on April 10, 2019. Sentenced to prison for seven months, and ordered to pay £269.74 total compensation.

January 30:

TONY COOK, 55, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing £50 worth of bacon from Co-op in Wokingham on December 31, 2019, and admitted stealing £20 worth of baby milk from Co-op in Wokingham, on January 2, 2020. Also admitted failing to surrender to custody, having being released on bail, on January 23, 2020. Ordered to pay £35 total compensation, and fined £10.

January 31:

RYAN CHERRY, 24, of Wokingham Road, Bracknell, admitted assault by beating in Bracknell on September 23, 2019. Also admitted failing to surrender to custody having been released on bail in Reading on January 14. Given a community order including 40 hours unpaid work requirements. Also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Fined £50.

CINDY BROWN, 27, of Cunworth Court, Bracknell, admitted harassment by fear of violence in Swallowfield, Reading, between December 30, 2019 and January 4. Given a community order and a restraining order made. Also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge, and £85 court costs.

LOUIS SMIT, 42, of Lysander Drive, Bracknell, admitted driving whilst disqualified in Arthur Road, Windsor on December 22, 2019. Also admitted using a vehicle in public without third party insurance on Arthur Road, Windsor, on December 22, 2019. Fined £250. Also ordered to pay £32 victim surcharge, and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for three months.

February 3:

TANYA WAITE, 42, of Wordsworth, Great Hollands, admitted failing to comply with a community order made on December 10, 2019. Also failed to attend rehabilitation activity requirement sessions on December 17, 2019, and failed to attend unpaid work induction on December 16, 2019. Failed to attend both sessions on December 23, 2019. Fined £50 and ordered to pay £60 court costs.

A fundamental principle of open justice is that it must be seen to be done. It is established in the UK court cases should be heard in public. This principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, as a deterrent to perjury, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of public interest.
