A GRIEVING daughter who suffered her 'worst nightmare' after her mum passed away will be running the London Marathon for a very worthy cause.

Jo Chandler from Bracknell will be running her first challenge the Sage Reading Half Marathon in memory of her mum Carol May who died in March 2019.

Her mum was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2018 and received care at the Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in her final weeks.

Ms Chandler said: "My family suffered our worst nightmare when mum was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2018.

"The hospice was not a sad place like I always imagined it to be; it was warm and homely and the staff ensured that as a family we were comfortable and well looked after.

"Since my mum passed away, the support, guidance and online bereavement counselling from Sue Ryder has also been invaluable in helping me deal with my grief."

Jo will finally be running 26.2 miles in April in the Virgin Money London Marathon after a number of unlucky applications into the race.

So far she has raised £890.00 out of her £2,000 target through her JustGiving page.

She added: "I am so thankful to my family, friends and colleagues for their amazing support, particularly my husband Sean – who although has recently been diagnosed with cancer himself – is an inspiration for me to keep up with my training.”

Her colleagues at Fleet Mortgage will also be supporting her race during the Reading Half.

Gemma White, community fundraiser at Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to Jo for taking on two massive challenges – the London Marathon and the Reading Half Marathon – to raise money in memory of her mum. We will all be cheering her on from the sidelines and wish her the very best of luck.”
