A PRIMARY school in Bracknell has closed for a precautionary "deep clean" amid coronavirus fears.

Great Hollands Primary School released a statement to parents on their website today (March 2) explaining the school will be closed from 1.45pm today and reopen on Friday, March 6.

In the statement, headteacher Richard Ferris, said: "It has been brought to the school's attention that there is a member of staff in a Woodley school that has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

"Whilst there is no direct link, indirectly there is a member of our school community who is showing symptoms potentially associated to the virus.

"At this time, we strongly believe that there is no increased risk to staff and pupils at our school, and I can confirm no direct contact between that staff member and our school.

"As a precautionary measure I, together with Maiden Erlegh Trust and reflecting on guidance from Public Health England, have taken the decision to close the school for 72 hours and commission a deep clean throughout the school site.

"This will allow for the cleaning to be completed, and a reasonable amount of time for any potential bacteria to be eradicated.

"For assurance, the schools usual cleaning routines will have greatly reduced the risks of the virus being spread."

He continued: "Although this news may give cause for concern, we believe the risk level to be extremely low and we are taking these steps as a precaution only.

"We have been promoting good hygiene practices with our children for a number of weeks now and from this morning, all children have been asked to wash they hands on arrival at school, and will be continuing to do so throughout the day."
