Wokingham MP John Redwood talks all about the budget in this week's column, He writes:

The budget on March 11 is an important moment.

It is the first budget since we left the EU, and the first since the General Election. I expect it to confirm the extra money for Wokingham, and West Berkshire schools, the boost in money for our local NHS, and the provision to pay the extra police Thames Valley has been allowed to recruit.

We also need more money for local roads and transport improvements which should become available in the months ahead.

I also want it to give a boost to our economy generally.

The world economy has been badly slowed by the virus in China, the worldwide decline of the car industry and manufacturing more generally, and by the tough policies being followed in the Euro area which still suffers from high levels of unemployment in many parts of the zone.

The UK can afford a budget boost to create more better paid jobs and ensure people have more money to spend. I am pressing for some tax cuts. The Conservatives promised tax cuts for all through a reduction in National Insurance. We also need lower Stamp duties for home buyers.

I was pleased to see the government pressing on with a new migration system to help create a better trained and better paid workforce at home by limiting the numbers who come in to look for low paid work. I also look forward to the legislation to give us fishing and farming policies that put our interests first as a country, and encourage more home produced food.

The government has also announced a consultation on a new scheme to help people buy their first home, with a system of discounts on new houses.

We do need to make it easier for people to get onto the property ladder so they can benefit from no rent payments in later life and freedom to decorate and adapt their home as they wish.
