WOKINGHAM local have been expressing excitement for CBD-infused coffee revealed as the newest quirky addition to one cafe's menu.

Sit & Sip tasting room in Wokingham town centre is reportedly the first cafe in the borough to sell coffee made with Cannabidiol (CBD) - a compound non-psychoactive substance found in the cannabis plant.

They also made the ingredient available to add to soft drinks, with hopes of making a 'CBD-infused Espresso Martini' in future.

Reactions to this have been largely positive from locals hoping to enjoy the latest trend, with one Facebook user saying "I think Starbucks maybe a thing of the past", and another saying the newly available drink is "for those sore weekends".

Other residents were quick to make plans over Facebook to visit with friends, saying "we should grab one at weekends."

Some readers also noted the potential release of a 'CBD-infused Espresso Martini' at the same cafe and expressed their excitement.

CBD has no psychoactive properties, whereas it's 'cousin' Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) also found in cannabis, does - this is what produces the cannabis 'high' and remains illegal in the UK.

Researchers have stated pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and people taking medication should not eat foods containing the ingredient derived from the cannabis plant.

Professor Alan Boobis, chairman of the committee on toxicity, said: "My committee has reviewed the evidence on CBD food products and found evidence there are potential adverse health effects from the consumption of these products."
