A VIBRANT atmosphere filled the room for the finals of the Bracknell Forest Secondary and Primary School Indoor Athletics competition.

From obstacle and relay races to long and triple jumps, children from 12 schools across Bracknell competed at Bracknell Leisure Centre on Friday, January 31, for the trophy.

The event is organised by the Bracknell Forest School Sport Partnership on behalf of the Borough Council as part of the Young People in Sport Scheme.

The afternoon saw the 12 qualifying primary schools from the heats earlier in the month come together to battle it out for the trophy.

With terrific support from the enthusiastic crowd, the primary school teams set an exceptional standard from the very first race with Whitegrove making a blistering start in the hurdles followed closely by Binfield and Wildridings.

In the field events, Whitegrove continued to be strong wining both the speed bounce and triple jump. St Margaret Clitherow and Warfield were keeping up with the early pace, gaining valuable points across all the field and track events.

Whitegrove, who were a formidable force all afternoon finished on a massive 430 points and took the gold medal.

Silver medal position went to the team from Binfield who scored 320 points.

Whilst the bronze medal was awarded to the athletes from Warfield with 286 just pipping the team from St Jospeh’s on 270 who finished in 4th.

The competition was fast and furious with outstanding performances by all of the athletes who took part.
