BLUE BIN bags should be on their way to homes in the Wokingham borough, with more than five million bags expected to be delivered.

Each household within the Wokingham borough should expect two rolls of 40 blue bags to use until March 2021, in order to regulate and recycle waste more effectively.

Councillor Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure said: “Our residents find they need fewer and fewer blue bags by making the most of our extensive recycling services at the kerbside – helping us achieve our aim to recycle more than 50 per cent of ourwaste in borough.

“Our food waste scheme has been a runaway success and we can only thank our residents for taking to it so readily.

“It’s really heartening to see how it has also boosted recycling habits for our kerbside collections, with our residents making sure Wokingham borough continues to increase its recycling percentages annually.”

Large families who would have otherwise received extra bags no longer will - however any resident of the borough can apply for extra bags on the Wokingham Borough Council website.

Green food waste bags were introduced in 2019, and has since meant 3,783 tonnes of food waste has been turned into energy, causing more than 55 percent of all Wokingham borough’s waste to be recycled.

Residents are able to collect more free food waste bags from the main council offices at Shute End, Wokingham, or from libraries across the borough.
