A WARNING about setting off fireworks on Brexit Day has come from police ahead of Friday.

There is just five days to go until the UK is set to depart the European Union at 11pm on Friday, January 31,

Leave Means Leave campaigners will mark the moment with a celebration in Parliamentary Square decorated with Union Jacks, there is also expected to be a clock counting down the last hour as a projection on to No 10 Downing Street.

But if you are planning to celebrate or commiserate locally, police have warned of the rules around using fireworks.

The force put out a warning which said: "With Brexit approaching on January 31, those wishing to celebrate with fireworks, please remember the Breach of Fireworks curfew.

The curfew means that fireworks are not allowed to be used between 11pm and 7am except for on November 5 or December 31.

Officers said any updates to the rules will be reported before Friday.
