This week readers hear from Member of Parliament for Reading West Alok Sharma on 2019 and looking ahead to 2020.

He writes;

THE decade we have just left behind us has been incredibly eventful, not least politically.

Four general elections, a national referendum on the EU and an independence referendum in Scotland.

Knocking on doors in my Reading West constituency ahead of last month’s election I sensed a huge desire amongst the electoral for certainty and stability. Talking to Parliamentary colleagues this was a sentiment felt across the nation.

After three general elections which produced either no majority government, or a government with a very small majority, the 2019 general election was decisive.

A huge mandate for Boris Johnson to deliver on Brexit and all the other issues which matter so much to people.

More funding for our public services. Maintaining a strong economy.

And continuing to demonstrate that the UK is a confident, outward-looking country playing a full role on the international stage.

On the morning after the election the Prime Minister made clear that he, and indeed the whole government, will work round the clock to repay the trust voters have placed in the Conservatives to deliver on their priorities.

And as we enter a new decade there will be an unrelenting focus on unleashing the potential of the whole country and delivering opportunity across the entire nation.

My best wishes to everyone for a happy and successful 2020 and, as over the past decade, my door will always be open for all my constituents.
