SEVERAL Bracknell Forest schools could receive big upgrades as part of spending plans worth more than £1 million.

Budget proposals for next year show multiple bids for school investments funded by the council, government grants and developer contributions.

Two schools could see more than £600,000 of this money head their way.

Harmans Water School, which is rated as ‘requires improvement’ by Ofsted, could benefit from £365,000 in improvement works which could help to reduce places.

Undersized classrooms could be adapted and refurbished in order to make the school more suitable.

A similar plan is in place for Sandy Lane School, which is in line to take £292,000 from education bosses at Bracknell Forest Council (BFC).

Relocation of The Rowans pre-school is a “critical” plan which would allow Fox Hill Primary School to create a nurture room for vulnerable pupils.

This move would mean the primary school can use a modular building for this provision, with the entire project set to cost £286,000.

Another relocation project involves Sandhurst School Nursery moving to the vacant caretaker’s house at Sandhurst School, which is set to be redeveloped.

This project would “free up space” in The Spot building, which will, in turn, free-up other teaching areas in the school, according to a BFC report.

Security measures will see more than £150,000 of spending at three schools in Bracknell Forest.

Cranbourne primary school could get £72,000 for a new fence, a new set of gates, CCTV and more.

College Town Primary School is in line to take £42,000 for a new boundary fence, and Wildridings School is also set to splash £41,000 on replacing its “dilapidated” perimeter fence.

Other bids include:

  • A car park extension at Crowthorne CE Primary School - £17,000
  • New fire safety doors at Wildridings School - £17,000
  • New motorised entry gates at Ascot Heath - £46,000

Parents and residents can have their say on these plans, and BFC’s other 2020/2021 budget proposals, before the council’s spending consultation closes on Friday, January 31 2020.

Councillors will vote on the authority’s final budget plans at a meeting in late February.
